FiveM Event Security: Protect Jobs, Rewards and Player Data

Review FiveM server events with clear trust boundaries, server-side decisions and acceptance tests for jobs and rewards before releasing a new resource.

THE TAKEAWAY

What to know

  • Document events that change persistent player data.
  • Choose local or network event exposure deliberately.
  • Check server-owned state and reject repeated or unauthorized rewards.

Start with a resource review worksheet

Before releasing a new job, shop or reward resource, list every event that changes persistent player data. Our suggested worksheet records the intended caller, required player state, allowed result and responsible developer. Give the resource an ordinary acceptance scenario and several rejection scenarios. This turns an abstract request for a secure script into reviewable requirements.

Expose only the events that need networking

The Cfx.re references describe AddEventHandler and RegisterNetEvent. The first handles an event in its context; the second registers it for network use. Decide the intended boundary before choosing the handler. Naming an event something unusual does not replace an authorization decision.

Keep valuable decisions on the server

The official Secure Your Events guide recommends checking values such as money, inventory, position, experience and permissions using server-side methods. Treat client input as a request to evaluate. A reward should follow the server’s recorded task state rather than a client’s claim about the amount earned. Client checks can improve the interface, but should not be the sole protection for persistent changes.

Agree on acceptance and rejection checks

Our recommended test plan runs only in a private environment you control. Check a valid task, an interrupted task, a disconnected player, a repeated completion and a request made without the required role. State the expected outcome before testing. For example, a completed job should produce the intended reward once, while a repeated completion should not add another reward. Have the developer explain how their framework maintains that state.

Make maintenance part of the handover

Ask for an event inventory, configuration notes, a test record and instructions for updating dependencies. Define what support needs to identify an error without collecting unnecessary player information. Keep a backup and recovery procedure for persistent data before release. These are our project acceptance suggestions, not a promise that any anti-cheat or event pattern prevents every abuse. Use the FiveM commissioning checklist for the wider project scope, or discuss a specific resource through Kiava FiveM development and FiveM hosting.
